Absent Friends

We all suffer loss we cannot explain or accept. I have lost so many people that I have learned bitterly to resent it...

It came like a blow to the stomach

The moment I heard of your death,

My mind rebelled hard against reason,

My body mislaid its next breath.

There's a hole where you had been standing,

It formed with no reason or rhyme.

We're left starring into the darkness

And wondering what was our crime?

How can a God famed for justice

Take all we loved far away,

And leave us the chief mutes and mourners

Still here at the end of day?
